TPD Officially Joins the Elkton, Maryland Community!

July 14, 2017

TPD is pleased to announce our southern expansion with the opening of our first Maryland office, located in downtown Elkton, MD. The office is situated along the I-95 and US 40 corridors, allowing us to provide our public and private clients and teaming partners with enhanced levels of service and collaboration in Maryland, as well as extending further south. This is TPD's ninth office location in the Mid-Atlantic region, with other locations in Pennsylvania (Pottstown - HQ, Philadelphia, West Chester, Doylestown, Allentown, Harrisburg, and Pittsburgh) and New Jersey (Camden). The addition of this office location is a direct outcome of TPD’s intense growth over the past 5 years in terms of revenue and staffing increases. This year alone, the Zweig Group, a national A/E/C-oriented organization, ranked TPD a Hot 100 Firm nationwide based on growth, as well as the #28 Best Civil Engineering Firm to Work For in the Nation. TPD Hires former PennDOT Transportation Expert, David J. Azzato, P.E.

Traffic Planning and Design, Inc. is pleased to welcome David J. Azzato, P.E. to our firm as Senior Transportation Leader, operating out of our Harrisburg, PA office location.

Dave joins TPD after a 36-year career at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), principally in PennDOT’s Central Office. After serving in various roles in the Highway Delivery Division, Contract Management Division, Design Services Division, and the Bureau of Construction and Materials, Dave was promoted to Chief of the Highway Design and Technology Section within PennDOT’s Bureau of Project Delivery. TPD Welcomes Alex Meitzler, Regional Planning Expert

On March 27th we welcomed a new face to the TPD family: Alex Meitzler, P.E., PTOE. Alex joins TPD as a senior project manager in our Transportation Planning Department. Alex will serve as the office manager for a new TPD office to be located in Maryland. Utilizing his broad technical, managerial, and public speaking experience, Alex will help to expand TPD’s services in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and beyond.

Alex brings 26 years of industry experience to his new position with TPD. His expertise covers all facets of traffic and operations, including strategic planning, traffic impact studies, traffic engineering analyses, traffic signal designs, and preliminary/final design. Throughout his career, Alex has provided services for a wide range of clients, including public agencies (e.g., MdSHA, DelDOT, VDOT, PennDOT, FHWA), municipalities and counties (e.g., City of Wilmington, City of Newark, DE), and private developers. Alex’s recent experience includes traffic task management for a $70 million design/build project improving Route 1 near Fort Belvoir, VA, and for a Diverging Diamond Interchange project in Blacksburg, VA. TPDer Named TMACC’s Chair of the Board

TPD’s Executive Vice President, Donald Jacobs, P.E., PTOE, has been named the Chair of the Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC)’s Board of Directors. He previously served on TMACC’s Board and as Treasurer for over eight years. The Board also elected their Executive Committee, which includes Greg Davis, Partner at Saul Ewing (Vice Chair), Matthew Baumann, Assistant Township Manager at Tredyffrin Township (Secretary), and Anthony Nichols, Senior Vice President at Workspace Property Trust (Treasurer).

Don’s areas of expertise are traffic and transportation planning, as well as highway design. Since joining TPD in 1995, Don has managed dozens of transportation-related projects, most of which he has carried from the planning stage through preliminary and final design, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations, and construction.

TMACC is a non-profit located in Malvern, committing their efforts to advocating for the improvement of air quality and congestion through transportation management demand strategies and congestion mitigation strategies. Their Board is made up of over 20 professionals from the public and private sector. CPESC - Revised Requirements in PA

April 27, 2016

Steven Natale, PE, of Traffic Planning and Design, Inc. (TPD) recently received his Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) certificate, joining two other staff members, Daniel Bitterlich, PE, and Tracy Stroschein, who are also certified. Philip Wursta, Vice President at TPD and leader in the local civil engineering community, has been appointed to the Bucks County Community College (BCCC) Board of Trustees. The Board is comprised of 15 members of the community who meet monthly to govern the two-year, public college, which was founded in 1964. We are pleased to announce that TPD’s own CFO and Principal, Shawn Glick, CDA, won the CFO of the Year Award in the Best Turnaround Specialist category by Lehigh Valley Business (LVB). This award honors the Greater Lehigh Valley’s financial executives for the critical role they play in making their companies successful. Nominations were open to the public in April and finalists and winners in each category were selected from the pool of nominees by an independent panel of judges. Welcoming a Local Planning Leader

In September 2015, TPD welcomed Louis Hufnagle to the family as a Project Manager, focusing on Municipal Services. Louis’ background is in public sector work, with over 12 years of planning experience working with both Chester and Delaware County Planning Departments in Pennsylvania. He has had a major hand in transforming the region’s highways, roads, bridges, streetscapes, greenways, as well as bicycle, pedestrian and transit facilities. In addition to assisting counties and municipalities in the preparation of studies and development of recommendations for improvements, while working for Delaware County he also served as an advisor to Delaware County Council and the County Executive Director on numerous transportation projects. Joe was honored with the George Stout Award at the South Jersey Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE)’s 36th Annual Awards Luncheon.
