TPD’s Structures Team is comprised of 14 professionals, including 9 Certified Bridge Safety Inspectors (CBSIs) and 11 Professional Engineers (P.E.s). This team has demonstrated success in delivering structure projects for construction, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and noise walls. Over the years, TPD has completed numerous projects for PennDOT Districts 3-0, 4-0, 5-0, 6-0, 8-0, and 9-0, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, counties and local municipalities.
TPD has completed bridge inspections for PennDOT, local government bridge owners, and private clients in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). We have performed both routine (periodic) inspections for continual monitoring of bridge conditions, and in-depth inspections for detailed structural evaluation and rehabilitation. Our inspectors are highly qualified Professional Engineers or Engineers-in-Training with experience in bridge analysis, design, maintenance, and rehabilitation. In addition, our inspectors are PennDOT Certified Bridge Safety Inspectors (C.B.S.I.), and have completed PennDOT CoRe Element Assessment and BMS2 I-Form training.
We regularly deal with a wide variety of bridge sizes ranging from small culvert and single span bridges, to large multi-span structures. Bridge types have included historic steel trusses, prestressed beam bridges, steel beam bridges, historic wooden covered bridges, concrete and steel culverts, and masonry and concrete arches. As bridge engineers, our inspectors understand bridge behavior and can recognize critical conditions observed during inspections. Particular attention is directed toward critical areas such as load postings, safety features, steel corrosion, and scour conditions. Fracture critical members receive close inspection, documentation, and evaluation.
