As part of a joint revitalization effort by Bridgeport Borough and the owner of the Taphouse 23 Restaurant, a new parking lot was planned on the north side of E. Fourth Street (SR 0023), which prompted a need for a safe, direct route to get local residents and patrons across the street.
TPD provided HOP design services including pedestrian flashing warning device design, parking lot access design, ADA curb ramp design, and pavement marking and signing design. This included signing and striping of a “No Parking” area to provide appropriate sight distance for pedestrians/motorists. The pavement markings help narrow the effective length of the crossing and focus motorists’ attention toward the crossing.
A pushbutton-actuated rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) was designed to further alert motorists of pedestrians entering the roadway. The Montgomery County Association for the Blind was consulted during the design of the crossing to provide an appropriate audible push button message for visually impaired users.
