TPD led a 12-month planning study of Garrett Road, Bywood Avenue, and Long Lane in Upper Darby Township, Delaware County, PA. With SEPTA’s 101 and 102 trolley line running immediately adjacent to Garrett Road and four schools located along the 1.5-mile study area, the TPD Team developed a corridor improvement plan that aimed to improve physical accommodations for all transportation users and modes. The concept plan included a proposed road diet to address speeding and safety concerns, improve on-street parking arrangements, and allow for curbside green infrastructure. The TPD Team developed several renderings to depict key physical improvements, as well as 3D fly-thorough of the corridor plan via Google Earth.

Halfway into the 12-month study, the Project Team was presented with a unique opportunity to implement the yet-finished study: PennDOT was planning to repave Garrett Road near the conclusion of project schedule. The Project Team worked aggressively with Upper Darby Township and PennDOT to develop formal restriping plans, which implemented the initial elements of the Corridor Plan via the resurfacing project.
