TPD Expands Southern Operations, Joining with Friction Shift Projects, LLC

TPD and Friction Shift Projects, LLC (FSP) are pleased to announce the joining of the two firms, to continue doing business under the TPD name. TPD is a full-service transportation engineering firm serving the eastern United States, including an office in Asheville, North Carolina. FSP, headed by its founder and president, Kristy Carter, AICP, is an active transportation planning practice based in Asheville as well. Adding FSP’s skills and experience will enable the TPD team to provide more comprehensive transportation solutions to our clients, especially with respect to FSP’s experience with community planning and public involvement, which will add value to the firm’s transportation project delivery from planning through design and construction.

TPD and FSP have teamed on many recent projects in the Carolina region, including:

– Charlotte Street Road Diet in Asheville, NC

– Swannanoa River Greenway in Asheville, NC

– Flat Rock Connections Study in Henderson County, NC

– Main Street Traffic Calming in Greenwood, SC

– Traffic and Parking Study in the Town of Black Mountain, NC

– Greenway, ADA and Pedestrian Plans in Asheville, NC

– NCDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Division On Call Contract – Statewide

FSP’s approach to connecting people with their communities complements TPD’s services and creates a strong foundation to continue making a difference in the region’s active transportation networks. FSP enhances TPD’s multimodal and transportation planning project pursuits and adds depth and quality in transportation/community planning, GIS analysis, community engagement, equity in transportation, mapping, and graphics.

In TPD’s 30th year in business, the firm is excited about joining forces with FSP. TPD President, Kevin Johnson, notes “FSP’s values and sense of community align so well with TPD’s, the partnership is a natural fit. Kristy’s focus on engaging with communities and developing solutions that improve active connections between people and places will make her a true asset to TPD. I am looking forward to what the next 30 years holds for our ever-evolving firm.”
