The SR 0011, Section 075 project involved improvements to the Route 11 and Route 997 intersection in Greene Township, Franklin County, PA. Route 11 serves as a major arterial between Chambersburg to the south and Shippensburg to the north. Route 997 serves as a connector route between Route 11 and the Letterkenny Army Depot and I-81. The intersection of Route 11 and Route 997 operated at a Level of Service D with certain movements operating at a Level of Service F. This was due to the high volume of turning vehicles and lack of adequate auxiliary lanes to support these vehicles.
The project involved the widening of the intersection to provide right turn lanes on Route 11 and left and right turn lanes on Route 997. The project also included the replacement of an existing traffic signal, the installation of storm water management facilities and the installation of pedestrian accommodations.
TPD was responsible for Alternatives Analysis, Environmental Clearance, Preliminary Engineering, Final Design and Construction Services. This included the development of Construction Plans, Traffic Control Plans, Temporary Signal Plans, Signing and Pavement Marking Plans, Right-of-Way Plans, permitting and utility coordination.
The project was completed as a “Local Lead” project where Greene Township was responsible for all pre-construction activities, including engineering, utility relocations and right-of-way acquisitions and PennDOT is responsible for all construction related activities.
