As the prime consultant under a five-year agreement, TPD completed the routine NBIS, interim bridge inspections, closed bridge inspections, and load rating analyses for 95 bridges owned by Chester County.
The bridges ranged in length from the 12’ to 147’, and included various bridge types: historic steel trusses, stone masonry arches, steel stringer bridges, prestressed concrete beam bridges, concrete slab bridges, steel through girder bridges and covered timber bridges. The work included conducting the field inspections to collect bridge condition data, preparation and submission of inspection reports, preparation of load rating analyses, posting evaluations, and maintenance recommendations. All work was performed in accordance with PennDOT procedures utilizing PennDOT’s iForms and BMS2 bridge database. Our work also included identifying critical (priority 0) and high priority (priority 1) maintenance needs and issuing priority maintenance notification letters to the County to enable them to respond to these maintenance needs in a timely manner as required by PennDOT procedures.
As the prime consultant, TPD was responsible for managing the activities of three subconsultants retained to perform underwater inspections, interim bridge inspections and to meet the contract DBE goal. Our management of this agreement also included coordination with PennDOT District 6-0 and the consultant that manages the District 6-0 Local Bridge Inspection Program.
