PROJECT OVERVIEW

Under four (4) separate contracts, TPD was selected by Montgomery County to provide construction management and inspection services for the following bridges:

Bridge #8 included the replacement of the single span, Morris Avenue bridge over Mill Creek in Lower Merion Township. The existing bridge was a 61-foot two span reinforced concrete T-beam structure with reinforced concrete abutments. The new structure is a single span pre-stressed concrete bulb-tee beam structure with a span of 76 feet. The project also involved extensive utility coordination with Verizon, PECO Electric, PECO Gas and Aqua. Also, the construction activities included roadway excavation, removal of the existing structure, cast-in-place abutments on pile foundations, installation of precast concrete beams, deck placement, approach slabs, granite curb, subsurface drainage for Morris Avenue and other miscellaneous construction. TPD’s project responsibilities included daily field inspection duties, documentation, processing submittals and RFI’s, contractor coordination, review of contractor pay applications, and preparation of contract work orders. TPD also provided inspection at the precast plant for the fabrication of the proposed beams.

Bridge #231 included the rehabilitation of County Bridge 231 on Peevy Road over Perkiomen Creek in Upper Hanover Township, PA. This project involved the rehabilitation of the existing 100 foot long, steel truss bridge including the replacement of all floor beams, stringers, pins and hardware, miscellaneous steel repairs, cleaning and painting the steel superstructure, replacement of the existing deck with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) deck panels, and bearing repairs. Masonry substructure repointing and updating guiderail and signing was also a part of the project. TPD’s project responsibilities included daily field inspection duties, documentation, processing submittals and RFI’s, contractor coordination, review of contractor pay applications, and preparation of contract work orders.

Bridge #243 includes the replacement and rehabilitation of the Old Reading Pike Stone Arch Bridge over Yerger’s Creek in Lower Pottsgrove Township. Project construction included reconstruction of stone walls and arches. An arch support system was built to support rebuilding of arch stones and walls and replacement of the fill with light-weight concrete fill to reduce loading on the arches. TPD’s project responsibilities included daily field inspection duties, documentation, processing submittals and RFI’s, contractor coordination, review of contractor pay applications, and preparation of contract work orders.

Bridge #268 includes the replacement and rehabilitation of Easton Road over Tacony Creek in Cheltenham Township. This superstructure replacement includes a single span, non-composite, adjacent box beam bridge spanning Tacony Creek. The project included complete deck and beam replacement, full depth approach roadway paving, utility relocation and other associated work. TPD’s project responsibilities included daily field inspection duties, documentation, processing submittals and RFI’s, contractor coordination, review of contractor pay applications, and preparation of contract work orders. TPD also provided inspection at the precast plant for the fabrication of the proposed beams.
