PROJECT OVERVIEW
TPD served as a subconsultant to Gannet Fleming on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s total reconstruction project for the widening of the mainline from four (4) to six (6) lanes from MP 308 to MP 312.
As part of this agreement, TPD was responsible for the preliminary and final design of the early action Milford Road Bridge replacement over the turnpike mainline. The new structure is a two span, prestressed concrete bulb-tee beam bridge with an approximate total length of 167’ and a skew of 66°-29’-00”.
The design, scheduling and construction of the structure required the incorporation of embankment preloading in areas where the footprint of the new bridge would extend beyond the plan area of the existing bridge in order to mitigate differential settlement concerns.
TPD’s responsibilities on this project included the completion of all engineering and environmental tasks for the proposed bridge replacement, including:
- Project Management/Administration
- Line and Grade
- TS&L and Final Structure Design and Plans
- Phase I Environmental Site Assessment
- NPDES Permitting
- Chapter 105/Section 404 Permitting
- Traffic Control Plans
- Signing and Pavement Marking Plans
- Right-of-Way Plans
- Utility Coordination
- Stakeholder/Local Official Coordination
- Construction Documents
