PROJECT OVERVIEW
The PPL Center sports arena is a mixed-use facility and is part of a larger, 5-acre square block redevelopment project of the central business district of Allentown. In addition to serving as a sports facility, the ground floor of the arena contains offices for news station, WFMZ-TV.
For the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority (ANIZDA), TPD conducted a comprehensive Parking Analysis to determine the total number of parking spaces required to support the arena’s visitors during the highest peak period parking demands. TPD also conducted a Traffic Impact Study (TIS) which included approximately 16-intersections to determine whether the City’s existing roadway infrastructure could accommodate the new traffic generated by the proposed development, in addition to a Traffic Signal Study for approximately 50 intersections. TPD provided ANIZDA with recommended improvements:
- Signal timing changes
- Updated Signal Permit Plans
- Addition of wayfinding signage
- Creation of an event management plan
