Hempfield & Unity Townships, Westmoreland County, PA
TPD is a subconsultant on a design-build project along SR 0030 in Westmoreland County. TPD’s role on this project is to prepare design plans for the replacement of five signals located along Route 30 in Westmoreland County. The goal of this project is to replace and modernize the signal installations along this heavily congested corridor. The ADT along this corridor varies from 51,000 vehicles per day in Hempfield Township to 20,000 vehicles per day in Unity Township. There is significant commercial activity along the corridor especially on the western end in Hempfield Township. The anticipated results of this project are to modernize the signal installations, increase capacity, improve safety, and bring the installations into compliance with ADA requirements for pedestrians.
The majority of existing signal equipment at these intersections will be replaced, including new mastarms at 3 intersections, new LED signal indications, new wiring, and new controller cabinets. In addition, several new features will be installed including spread spectrum or GPS interconnect, new sequential loop installations, and ADA compliant pedestrian signal equipment (pushbuttons and countdown signal indications), In addition to updating the existing installations, a detailed traffic analysis and simulation is being performed to evaluate the existing signal phasing and to develop coordinated signal timings.
TPD is a subconsultant to Tresco Paving and will be responsible for completing the following tasks related to the traffic signal design for the intersections of Donohoe Drive, Nature Park Road, Georges Station Road, Theater Street Extension, and Palmer Place along U.S. Route 30:
- Data Collection
- Preparation of Traffic Signal Permit and Construction Plans
- Preparation of Specifications and Tabulation Plans
- Temporary Signal Plans During Construction
- Coordination with PennDOT 12-0 and Township Officials
- Traffic Engineering and Analysis Report
- SYNCHRO/SIMTRAFFIC analysis and simulation
